| Free Hair Cuts For those willing to donate their hair to Locks of Love... ![]() Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. We meet a unique need for children throughout the United States by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. LOCKS OF LOVE HOME PAGE For list of hair salons participating in the free haircuts for Locks of Love..... PARTCIPATING SALONS Nothing in your state? You can go to any salon to donate your hair... you can even cut it at home. Simply put your hair in a ponytail or braid, then cut above the rubberband. Once your hair is dry, put it in a plastic bag and send it in a manila envelope through regular mail. ~Love Is Good.~

This is great I did this last year and I am currently growing my hair once again to do this. I had never heard of this program until ours kids doctor had her hair cut and she so she had mentioned it since my hair was down my whole back. Of course my ends were horrible so it only amount to 10 inches. So another thought would be to get it trimmed often to prevent that. ![]() Here are some very helpful guidelines on the requirements: HAIR DONATION GUIDELINES We accept 10" minimum hair length (tip to tip), not wigs, falls, or synthetic hair Please bundle hair in ponytail or braid Hair needs to be clean, dry, and placed in a plastic bag We need hair from men and women, young and old, all colors, and all races Hair may be colored or permed, but not chemically damaged (if you're not sure, ask your stylist) Hair swept off the floor is not usable Hair cut years ago is usable as long as it has been stored in a ponytail Hair that is short, gray, or unsuitable for children will be separated from the ponytails and sold at fair market value to offset the cost of manufacturing You may pull curly hair straight to measure the minimum 10" The majority of all hair donated comes from children who wish to help other children Layered hair may be put into more than one ponytail for donation

Yep, I found out about this program through a work cohort. I had no clue it even existed. I had been thinking of updating my look (including my hair) and when I heard about this ~ well, it just all fell into place. I didn't do the freebie salon thing, but I went last weekend to my stylist and she cut about 12" off my hair and we bundled the ponytail up to send. Now I feel good about helping such a wonderful cause and I have a new just-below-the-shoulder-length hair style. I love it!!
