Rupert ~ Survivor Million

Out of curiousity when Rupert, or any of the other winners win the million, how much do they actually take home after Uncle Sam takes his chunk, etc?

I don't know for sure but to guess I would say 1/3 is taken out for taxes.

if they take it as a lump sum, it would be the maximum federal rate plus the maximum state rate, which could total nearly half, depending on the state.

I believe they said they actually get somewhere around $600,000. Still a nice chunk of money.

There was an interview with Rupert in our Indianapolis newspaper, and he said that he had checked with a tax attorney and the amount that he would receive after taxes is $520,000.
I could live with that!

Wow, I could live with that too, but that's a huge chunk of change! Just imagine what the government could do with that money if they spent it right...
