help- we got termites!!!

and our house is only 7 years old and all brick!!! the damage is small right now, only above the garage door (we had a free inspection). Just to treat the termites (not to repair the damage) we were quoted approx $2000 !!!
Does anybody knows what else can we do? How about those termite treatment that can be bought in home depot? are they good? Please any advice is welcome here, we can't let this go untreated for too long or we'll have no house!
Thanks!

Once you've actually got termites, the stuff at the Home Depot won't help you. You truly do need a professional at this point. Especially since there's a guarantee with them. If they don't get rid of the termites, and there's more damage, you can use their guarantee to your advantage. Termites are difficult to get rid of, and personally I wouldn't mess around with a "do-it-yourself" product. I would recommend one of the national termite extermination chains (best guarantees, and similar costs)....terminix, orkin, truly nolan etc....

We had termites in a previous house. Terminix got rid of them, but they don't actually go away and die. They just move to your neighbor's house, so whent the neighbor treats his house, they will move on to try your house again, but if they can't cross the termite barrier, they'll hit another neighbor's house. But if there was even a tiny break in the barrier put down, they'll be back at your house. Our garage was infested so bad that they came through the wall and into the house, onto a shelf with magazines stored...and they actually ate into the stack of magazines (paper is wood pulp you know). It was disgusting.

Anyway, to protect your home, this is not the time to cut corners. Get a couple estimates (should be free to do) from a few trusted exterminators to see if you can't get that $2000 down a little bit anyway. I know it's a lot of money, but termites are not to be messed with. They will destroy your house if improperly treated.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Good luck to you.
