what kind of cell phone?!
hey everyone! how's it going? i'm in the market for a new cell phone. it's been awhile since i've gotten a new one...i'm amazed at what they have out now!! have you seen that new V710 from motorola for instance? it has video capture ability, an mp3 player, 1.2 mega camera (not sure what that means, but it certainly sounds impressive, right?) oh, i saw information on it at www.hellomoto.com/producer. well, that all sounds good to me. i just wonder if you can make phone calls on it.
What kind of phone do you have?? Would you recommend it?? Thank you!! |

We just use a basic Nokia model. No frills, bells, or whistles ('m just not into multi-function phones, I just want to be able to call someone!) But it is quite user friendly, as most of their models seem to be. My opinion, go for the best deal! But then again, I'm cheap!
Another thing to keep in mind is whether or not you want a flip-phone. A few people I know use theirs so much that they've broken the hinges on them. Or if you are clumsy and drop things, you might want a rather "durable" model. Hope that helps! -beth

A bit of info here:
GSM -- A large standard in Europe. Used here by AT&T (soon to be Cingular), Cingular, and T-Mobile. In Europe, you can have a phone and use it with any company. CDMA -- Used by Sprint, Verizon, TracFone (pre-paid) and I think Nextel. I use a Samsung N400 (Sprint.) Color screen, net access, no camera (external optional). About a year old; the model is no longer produced. I don't have very many dropped calls. For standard voice service, there are few differences in my opinion nowadays between GSM and CDMA. Depends on what towers you're closed to. If you use your phone at home at lot, check with a friend(s) to see what kind of service from what company/technology is best. This is something to consider, since many people use cell phones for the free long distance and some cancel land line service all together. Mine is a flip-phone style, no problems with hinges. But I have a quality case for it -- might be expensive, but highly recommended. LostAgain -- do you have a current contract with a company? Are you looking for any specific service provider? This will all determine your choice of models. I have never heard any negative reviews about a specific model per se -- but only the service providers. Let me know if you have more questions. Put what your specific needs are and your price range and any other useful info and I'm sure we'll all be able to suggest something! |

Thanks!
Hey, thanks for all the info! What exactly is GSM all about?
I currently have a contract with T-Mobile, but it's almost up. Either way, I've been pretty content with the service, it's just my phone that keeps shutting off lately. Plus, everyone else has all these fun gimmicks and gadgets on their phones. It'd be nice to have one like that too. (hee hee...that V710 is definitely on the wish list now). |
