I have gotten this e-mail 26 times in the last hour. . .
Hopefully most of you would red flag this right away, but just in case anyone does not. . . There is an e-mail going around that has "Microsoft" in the From name and security@microsoft.com as the From address. The subject varies, but these are the ones that I have seen, "Use this patch immediately!" and "Important Update for Windows" Hopefully if anyone is not suspicious when seeing the basics, they will realize not to open the attachment after seeing the contents of the poorly written e-mail, "Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now! There are dangerous virus in the Internet now! More than 500.000 already infected!" Attached is a file called patch.exe which is actually Dumaru@mm-a mass-mailing worm that drops trojans on its way. Microsoft will never send you an update by e-mail. To patch Windows or anything of that sort, regularly visit Windows Update (click Tools -> Windows Update from IE to easily access it). If you have already opened the file, their is a fix here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com...oval.tool.html |
