Has anyone had a child fail a hearing exam?

I took my 4yo in for his 4yr check up two weeks ago. Turns out he failed the hearing exam. She said he didn't hear the lowest level. We've got a referral for audiology now. Just wondering what kind of testing they'll do so I can prepare him and myself.

Between they're vision problems, his hearing and my daughter's mysterious tummy aches, I'm ready to permanently move in to the hospital. I've been up there (30-40 minute drive each way) at least once a week for the past month.

{{{snugglebug}}} My son once failed a hearing test at the pediatrician once, and his hearing is fine. I don't actually remember how they did the test, since this was several years ago, but it wasn't difficult for him.

Since he is only four, will he be seeing a children's audiologist? My daughter had a hearing test before she could speak. I took her to the local children's hospital and we sat in a room where they played sounds in various directions, and she would turn her head when she heard it. She was then rewarded by a toy animal dancing. She passed just fine.
