list is a hoax, sorry
It has already been widely discredited. Some companies are obviously placed on the list for malicious reasons.
Example: Houghton Mifflin, a Boston-based firm, which has been a leading U.S. publisher, and a leading force in American literature, for over a century. More information about this closely held firm can be found here : http://www.hmco.com/news/release_123102.html No whiskey is allowed to be called Bourbon unless it is produced in Kentucky; even Tennessee-based Jack Daniels cannot be labeld bourbon. Therefore the appearance of America's most popular bourbon on the list, Wild Turkey, is clearly a hoax. More information about this Kentucky product can be found here: http://www.wildturkeybourbon.com/home.htm A few items may be placed on the list because the person or persons compiling it may simply be ignorant of how modern corporations work today, although it is sad that someone could be unaware that large international firms tend to have large international presences. A lady on another board expressed worry about her Michelin tire plant in South Carolina, because of the Michelin boycott. South Carolina is a U.S. state and not a terribly wealthy one. As a Louisiana resident, I cannot drive down the street without reminders that there would be no United States as we know it today if the French had not aided us in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 and peacefully sold us the very large chunk of real estate without which the American "frontier" would have ended east of the Mississippi River. If a dispute over oil causes us to claim as our best ally the folks who burned down our White House in 1814, then it is a sad circumstance, but what will be will be. I would just ask that people in South Carolina, Kentucky, etc. not be asked to pay the price of a "boycott" created by hoaxers. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but in times like these it is very, very important to avoid being hoaxed. There are tricksters out there apparently who get a malicious sense of power out of spreading lies. it sounds cruel but, as a rule of thumb, I've about decided that if a piece of email comes as a "carbon copy" of something send to a bunch of other people and exortations to share the information...it might as well go directly to "delete" because whenever I've checked out said information, it's mostly bogus. |

Peachfront states:
"No whiskey is allowed to be called Bourbon unless it is produced in Kentucky; even Tennessee-based Jack Daniels cannot be labeld bourbon. Therefore the appearance of America's most popular bourbon on the list, Wild Turkey, is clearly a hoax. More information about this Kentucky product can be found here:" Wild Turkey website states: "Federal regulations specify that no whiskey can call itself bourbon unless it is manufactured within the United States according to the bourbon formula. " and "Where is most bourbon made? In Kentucky. The state has 12 operating distilleries that produce 90 to 95 percent of the world's supply of bourbon. Bourbon can be made in other places in the U.S., but you cannot add the state name to the label. Only Kentucky has this distinction. " MEANING: it just can't be called Kentucky Bourbon if it's not made in Kentucky, but it can be called Bourbon if it's made anywhere in the US. That doesn't mean the owners of the company have to be in America.....(see later in this response for more on that). Also, see this website to see that Austin, Nichols & Co (look at the bottom of the wild turkey website to see that they "own" wild turkey) was sold in 2001 to Pernod Ricard USA.....who is now the FRENCH parent company of, yes, Wild Turkey. SO....Wild Turkey is, in fact, owned by the FRENCH. http://www.pernod-ricardusa.com/pres...y_presskit.pdf Also, on Houghton Mifflin, from their website: "The leading Boston-based publisher, with over $1 billion in sales, was acquired from Vivendi Universal for $1.66 billion." SO...this publisher was only purchased FROM THE FRENCH company Vivendi in December of 2002....not over a century ago, as Peachfront suggests. Finally, and most importantly, at least to me, is this from Peachfront: "If a dispute over oil causes us to claim as our best ally the folks who burned down our White House in 1814, then it is a sad circumstance, but what will be will be." This is hardly a dispute over oil, and I find it really incredibly hard to believe any educated person, excluding the extreme liberals who will say anything against the current Republican government, could possibly think that. I do apologize if anyone takes offense to this post. And if some of the items on that list are not accurate, I apologize again...and would advise you to do your own research prior to a boycott of a particular company or product. And for the edification of anyone who might think this list came from a piece of spam/chain mail with a request to be forwarded to everyone in my address book, rest assured it was not. I copied the list from a relatively trustworthy website.......although they are not infallible. I had to speak my piece here. Our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, husbands and wives are fighting and dying for this country.......not for oil and not for Bush.....people who insinuate the latter really piss me off. Yes, Peachfront, many large companies do have a large presence in foreign countries. Like Wild Turkey, a French owned company, which has a large presence here in America, especially Kentucky where it is manufactured...........it is unfortunate that this formerly American owned company now gives it's profit and bottom line to the French.

Let's face it - the French went out of their way to block every initiative that the US put forth. I saw a pretty funny quote from General Scharwtzkopf (sp?): "Going into battle without France is like going hunting without your accordian." To the country of France (not to French-Americans): SCREW OFF!!!!!! Betcha would've been singing a different story if two SSTs rammed the Eiffel Tower......

"WHOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!"You Go Ragarone and wrb1000!!!!Sorry Peachfront, but once again you are so 'off the wall.' To insinuate that if it had not been for the French during the Revolutionary War...there wouldn't be a United States as we know it today it just Assinine! IF it hadn't been for Slavery there wouldn't have been a Civil War, and on and on and on... On the other hand...Had it not been for the USA in WWII there definately would not be a France! The French have been buying out American companies in record numbers for over 15 years now. And like in most cases unless a person is into researching each and every company in the US...you wouldn't have the foggiest idea about it! And wrb1000 is so correct.....PISS ON FRANCE!! Swarwtzkoft (es) couldn't have said it better....'Going to war without France is like going Hunting without an accordian'.....France screwed themselves on this one...and will get back 'exactly' what they have given.....NOTHING!!

Something was brought to my attention, and I felt I should address the subject to clarify my position on the matter.
As far as Michelin tires and other FRENCH owned companies who have manufacturing plants here in the US are concerned: There are many other tire companies (or whatever the product might be) that also have manufacturing plants here in the US that might actually be owned by AMERICANS.....or someone other than the French. By purchasing these alternative products, made by and owned by Americans, you are still supporting American workers at their plants AND the actual American companies themselves.....which is a double benefit to the US economy. Once the French owned plants have incurred enough of a deficit from the lack of sales, they will probably want to sell......and who will be in a good position to buy them?......the American companies who have been experiencing higher sales and income, thus supporting (once again) AMERICAN PEOPLE and not the French.

Actually what happens is, once a manufacturing plant based in America acquires enough of a deficit, the investors close the plant and move the manufacturing to Mexico, to China, and now to Africa. That is why we are losing our manufacturing. To refuse to buy products produced by American workers because of a partial investment by persons from another country seems to me a good way to make sure that fewer and fewer have good union manufacturing jobs with benefits and more and more end up in lousy service jobs without benefits. But I'm confident that people of goodwill can agree to disagree on this.
Perhaps our schools are just funny on the topic, but in Louisiana we are taught that the United States of America would not exist as we know it, without France. George Washington himself said that we would not have gained our liberty without the aid of General Lafayette and aid from the French gov't. As for the matter of World War II, it is well documented that the United States did not lift a finger to stop Germany from invading France or Poland or a number of other areas until we were ourselves attacked on our own soil and had no choice but to take sides in the matter. I made the comment about email because I received the same letter as an email, and later another letter stating that it was a hoax, and I'm pretty well satisfied that is is a hoax...but if not...fine. More champagne for the rest of us! What's really got my goat at the moment -- and I hope we can ALL agree on this issue -- are reports coming from the front that soldiers are being given only one meal (one MRE or "meal ready to eat") per day. I hope this is untrue, but if it is true, there needs to be more outcry. We can best support our troops not by insisting that our people are getting decent food and medical care. On another board, I even heard that some troops are being told to bring their own toilet paper. Has anyone heard this? |

argh, cut off one of my lines
I meant to say, we can best support our troops not by switching from champagne to sparkling wine but by making sure that our people are receiving decent food and medical care.
It looks like I dropped a phrase up there and the sentence makes no sense. Of course some might say I generally ramble on and make no sense anyways, ha! |

(((Sitting in the cheering section with Startn......
))) ![]() Way to go, Ragarone..........!! You are my hero!! Great research and info. Way to set the facts straight.... Thank you, thank you, thank you!! ![]() Wrb100.......your quoting of General Norman Schwartzkopt is priceless..... "Going into battle without France is like going hunting without your accordian." So true.........so completely true........ (I am SO gonna be using this one........!! ) And Peachfront - say what you want about the American's involvement in WWII......but if we hadn't joined in the battle, the oh-so-precious French would currently be Germans. Period. For a great read about France's hostility against America, check this out. I love it and I think it hits France's problem square on it's head. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/arti...1/232833.shtml

Quote:
2) The french would be speaking German right now if it weren't for us. Not once but twice they were getting there a$$es handed to them and we bailed them out when the Germans were kicking their a$$es. 3) The french abandoned us in Vietnam right after we came to help them. It was like "oh, the US is here we can leave now without surrendering". 4) The french don't want to go to war with Iraq because of what they know we will find when we get there. And what we will find are items that were banned under the UN resolutions around the time of the first Gulf War. They also didn't want us to go to war with Iraq because they buy cheap oil (<$10 per barrel) from the Iraqis in return for them selling them these banned items. Imagine if we paid < $10 per barrel of oil. Gas would be < $0.70 a gallon or whatever company imports the oil would make some serious loot from selling the gasoline at the current price for gas. Below is a quick history of french warfare and a few rules of french warfare: - Gallic Wars - Lost. In a war whose ending foreshadows the next 2000 years of French history, France is conquered by of all things, an Italian. - Hundred Years War - Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." -Italian Wars - Lost. France becomes the first and only country to ever lose two wars when fighting Italians. - Wars of Religion - France goes 0-5-4 against the Huguenots - Thirty Years War - France is technically not a participant, but manages to get invaded anyway. Claims a tie on the basis that eventually the other participants started ignoring her. - War of Devolution - Tied. Frenchmen take to wearing red flowerpots as chapeaux. -The Dutch War - Tied -War of the Augsburg League/King William's War/French and Indian War - Lost, but claimed as a tie. Three ties in a row induces deluded Frogophiles the world over to label the period as the height of French military power. -War of the Spanish Succession - Lost. The War also gave the French their first taste of a Marlborough, which they have loved every since. - American Revolution - In a move that will become quite familiar to future Americans, France claims a win even though the English colonists saw far more action. This is later known as "de Gaulle Syndrome", and leads to the Second Rule of French Warfare; "France only wins when America does most of the fighting." - French Revolution - Won, primarily due the fact that the opponent was also French. - The Napoleonic Wars - Lost. Temporary victories (remember the First Rule!) due to leadership of a Corsican, who ended up being no match for a British footwear designer. - The Franco-Prussian War - Lost. Germany first plays the role of drunk Frat boy to France's ugly girl home alone on a Saturday night. - World War I - Tied and on the way to losing, France is saved by the United States. Thousands of French women find out what it's like to not only sleep with a winner, but one who doesn't call her "Fraulein." Sadly, widespread use of condoms by American forces forestalls any improvement in the French bloodline. -World War II - Lost. Conquered French liberated by the United States and Britain just as they finish learning the Horst Wessel Song. - War in Indochina - Lost. French forces plead sickness, take to bed with the Dien Bien Flu. - Algerian Rebellion - Lost. Loss marks the first defeat of a western army by a Non-Turkic Muslim force since the Crusades, and produces the First Rule of Muslim Warfare; "We can always beat the French." This rule is identical to the First Rules of the Italians, Russians, Germans, English, Dutch, Spanish, Vietnamese and Esquimaux. - War on Terrorism - France, keeping in mind its recent history, surrenders to Germans and Muslims just to be safe. Attempts to surrender to Vietnamese ambassador fail after he takes refuge in a McDonald's. The question for any country silly enough to count on the French should not be "Can we count on the French?", but rather "How long until France collapses?" |

Some extra thoughts on the matter:
1) If you have faith in the United Nations to do the right things, keep this in mind: the UN has Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq heading the Global Disarmament Committee. Do your own math here. 2) If you use a Google or Yahoo search and type in "French Military Victories," don't be surprised if your computer panics at its inability to respond to your inquiry. 3) You can take this one to the bank: Saddam and bin Laden will NOT seek UN approval before they try to kill us. 4) If you are anti-war and even an outright "America Basher," to bin Laden you are still an "infidel" whom he wants dead. 5) Even multi-culturalists who try to browbeat us into believing that all cultures are equally deserving of respect have trouble explaining the past 500 years of Islam. 6) Whether you are for or against military action, our young men and women overseas are fighting to defend our right to speak out on these issues. They deserve our unreserved support.

SICK French yobs daubed a swastika and vile anti-war slurs at a cemetery for 11,000 British troops. Most soldiers buried at the cemetery were defending France at the Somme and Ypres during World War I. Another 122 are troops who died fighting the Nazis in World War II. Among the dead are a winner of the Victoria Cross, 217 holders of the Military Medal and 69 holders of the Military Cross. The showpiece cenotaph at the graveyard in Northern France was smeared in red paint with the words: “Dig up your rubbish. It’s fouling our soil.” Other slogans at the Etaples cemetery near Boulogne included “Death to the Yankees” and “Saddam Hussein will win and spill your blood.” And the vandals wrote “Rosbeefs go home” — the French insult for Brits is roast-beefs. Prime Minister Tony Blair and US President George Bush were also branded war criminals. Anyone STILL think the French are our "allies"??????????? (full story go here: http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2003150899,00.html)

I hope this is now the time that the US and Britian DO NOT turn the other cheek. As Arsenio Hall said.... "I'm so angry at France that I won't even 'FRENCH KISS' anymore!!!!!!!!!
