At what point do you call the doctor?

I've been battling a cold for a week now. It seems to hit a little more each day rather than all at once. My ears have been popping (think elevation change) all week and now they are so itchy and achy. The cough has settled into my chest now and it hurts to cough. The kids were only sick for 2 days max and then they were all fine. Why is it lasting so much longer for me?!

I don't like doctors. I really don't want to get out in the snow with the kids for a trip up there.

I think I'd call the doctor. If it hurts when you cough and it's hanging on so long, you could be heading for trouble if you don't get it checked out. You could have bronchitis.

I started out with the same thing at the start of the month and ended up going to the doctor and getting 2 inhalers given to me and I don't even have asthma. The cough is still lingering on for some reason and I am really drained (all I want to do is stay in bed) and no matter what I do I am always stuffy. This just doesn't want to give me a break!

One of my son's has been sick right along with me and they called it a virus and didn't give him anything of course (and he has asthma) so they gave me a time frame and said that if he wasn't better by tomorrow to bring him back in and they would see what they could do. (Which makes me really upset).

So don't wait much longer, get to the Dr. ASAP.

Sorry to hear you're sick, Snugglebug.....that's not good!

My step-daughter and myself came down with this nasty little bug back in the middle of January and we both still have congestion and the coughing and fatigue even now.

Our doctor said that we (and a lot of folks around here) have a viral infection and it takes as long as 6-8 weeks for it to run its course. In the meantime, he suggested to stay on OTC meds (in particular a decongestant but anything else we need for other symptoms), drink lots of fluids and get as much rest as possible when we get home from work/school.

He did say that if a fever persisted for more than a day or so or if either of us started coughing up yellowish/green discharge - to come back in his office for antibiotics.

Good luck and I hope you feel better real soon. I hope we all do!

I would call the doctor just because it would ease your mind. I know when I start feeling bad I try not to let it get me down. Then I worry. Once it gets too bad then I call and I find out that I wil lbe ok... So then I feel better right away ( wel sort of)
I hope you feel better soon.
