I'm Curious - Has Anyone Ever Bought the Bertie Bott's Beans from Jelly Belly?

I'm a Harry Potter fan and I know all about those crazy beans in the books BUT.......

I got the following email from Jelly Belly today:

*****************

Discover the Magic of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans

It's magical. It's incredible, and it just arrived! The new Discovery Box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, the jelly bean preferred by Harry Potter, holds 20 mild and wild flavors, each in its own little pocket.

Dip into the extra good flavors with watermelon, grape jelly and toasted marshmallow, and more. Or, discover the wild flavors of EARWAX, DIRT, SPINACH, GRASS, BOOGER, SARDINE, and BLACK PEPPER. And, everyone's favorite VOMIT. Think of stinky limburger cheese, think salami gone bad - that's VOMIT all wrapped up in the disguise of a jelly bean.

ORDER NOW!
$12.95 plus delivery for a taste experience of a lifetime!

Have a party, get the video, bring a magical time to life. Order now and taste the magic!

Sweet regards,
Mr. Jelly Belly

**********************

I know the weird flavors have to be in Harry Potter-type fun, but what do they really taste like? Traditional flavors? We were discussing this yesterday and know seems to know....... yikes!

I haven't tried them but if they are anything like the other jelly beans they sell, then they will taste pretty much like the say which could be pretty scary. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter too but I don't know if I want to eat jelly beans flavored like vomit. Uhhh, makes me queasy to think of it. Buy some and test them out on the guys at work or on your kids if they have drove you crazy. Just tell them you have a treat for how good they have been and if they taste as bad as they sound, then you get back at the person for driving you crazy. This would be good to use as a trick for slumber parties and not as mean as freezing underwear, etc.

I think you're probably right, Michele. I looked some stuff up on these and they said they use specific ingredients to purposely come up with this funky flavors. From what I understand, they are more of a "trade-them-with-your-friends-to-get-the-harder-to-find-flavors" collecting thing - more than an eating kind of deal. Good to know....I don't think I would want to try the hard to find flavors, myself.

How many days have ya got until ya fly down here?

Talking

I have!
Ok... they're all pretty tame. Like icy blue rasberry, chocolate cake, rasberry, buttered toast, licorice, daiquiri, popcorn...
But there's the icky sardine ones, and pepper ones, booger-flavored ones... Spinach, cabbage, and some 'mystery' icky ones that i think are like... well, i haven't figured 'em out but...
*nod, nod* Vomit flavor is very nasty, indeed. Ugh...

The good ones are worth it, and don't worry, as they come with a lil flavor guide in the package.

Oh my! I have bought them and ate them! The ones that are the gross flavors are really nasty tasting.

I bought them once and we joked around with them and got our friends to eat them too. We were driving along and my son gave me one, can't remember what flavor it was, but it tasted like what you might think dirty socks taste like - I had to open the window and spit it out it was so sick tasting.

I bought them for all the kids I had to buy for and put them with their Christmas presents last Christmas. They shared them with their parents

They were very expensive for the little bags and they were very, very hard to find (the stores couldn't keep them in stock). I ended up finding them a few days before Christmas at a 7-11 store.

They ARE nasty, but the kids had fun with them.

Thanks Mandi and JORDJACKP - you are my jelly beany culinary heroes. I am just thinking of stocking stuffers for my kiddos and wondered if they would "spit" more than they ate. You guys have answered all my questions. You are cool - you rule, need I say more?

YOU RULE!!

Okay...my big question is...

HOW the heck do they know what boogers and earwax taste like in order to create the authentic flavor??? Hmmmm?

I don't think I'll be buying these anytime soon. Except maybe for that evil neighbor kid next door...heh heh

We bought them too! My husband is quite brave when it comes to trying out new foods. So he tried most of the gross ones. I REFUSED to try horseradish and sardines! But, actually, the grass flavored ones were surprisingly good!

And I too wonder how they come up with the right flavorings!

He he he..... hi ya Mandi - ahem, I think I could "handle" the horseradish version WAY better than some of those colorfully gross flavors. I don't think I WANT to know what some things taste like.....
