Operation Christmas Child

The holiday season is coming up fast, and I think this is a really neat way to share the Christmas spirit with others. This would be a great family project...what a caring way to teach our kids about compassion and giving.

Operation Christmas Child

It involves packing a shoe box with candy, toys, and personal items to give to children in need across the world. There are drop-off locations in almost every community across the USA.

I'll be packing some of the many freebies I've accumulated over the past year. (As well as some of my kids' Halloween candy, which they may not be thrilled about, but they'll learn the joy of giving LOL). I know we can find tons of goodies at the dollar store, too. We have five kids, so we should be able to get a regular assembly line going!

This might also be a good service project for scout troops or church youth groups.

Anybody want to join me?

That is wonderful. I know cash donations can be made to Toys for Sick Children via PayPal from a link on the site. Our family made one in memory of Matt...do they accept toys, also? I have some overstock toys from my business, that I was going to donate to Toys for Tots...

that is great! Thank you for the donation! You bet they take toys....Brittwoman and I are even having a drop off day at her house on Dec 7th this year! We are having it put in all the local papers and we are walking door to door sticking flyers in peoples mailboxes (I have 3750 of them made so far) and also Matts school district is collecting them for us...we are hoping it is going to be a very successful year!

Littlebitties-

I've got a huge stash of dollar store and oriental trading bargains this year! The church I work at turns this into a family night activity. The church assembles about 125 boxes. The ladies of the church's knitting group makes hats, the kids make jewelry to include, and everybody brings stuff for the boxes. I love helping out with this! It's a great "hands on" deal.

Just remember that the deadline for turning in boxes comes quickly because they are sent around the world to be distributed!

Aprilgail-

I hope that your toy drive is a HUGE success!

What a wonderful idea!! My kids and I have bought stuff to make 10 boxes. Thank you for the info.

There's nothing like seeing a smile on a childs face, not to mention the hope in their hearts.

Brittwoman,

I'm afraid it wasn't a very large donation. I wish it could have been more.

I was so touched by his story. If anyone hasn't read it yet, please do. The link is in aprilgail's signature line.
