Pottery Barn,Target recall Halloween candleholders
WASHINGTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - Retailers Pottery Barn and Target Corp. (nyse: TGT - news - people) have agreed to recall two kinds of Halloween candleholders that could cause a fire hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Wednesday.
Pottery Barn, owned by Williams-Sonoma Inc. (nyse: WSM - news - people), is recalling about 11,500 "Scary Tree Tea-Light Holders" after receiving 10 reports of the candles flaring and one consumer suffering from a minor burn from the hot candle wax, according to the commission.
The candleholder has tree branches that hold six tea-light candles in orange glass pots and is about 18 inches high. The sets sold for about $29 in stores, online and in Pottery Barn catalogs from August through early October.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission urged consumers to stop using the candleholders and return them for a refund or exchange. Consumers can also obtain more information by calling Pottery Barn at 1-800-699-0449.
Separately, Target is recalling 26,000 ceramic Jack-O-Lantern candleholders, sold from September 2000 through this month for $5, because the flame of a candle inside could ignite the straw ribbon attached to the stem on the outside.
The retailer has received two reports of candles causing smoke and heat at the top of the Jack-O-Lanterns, but no injuries or damage, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The tan-colored candleholder is shaped like a pumpkin with a label, "October Harvest," on the stem.
The commission said consumers should stop using the lanterns and return them for a full refund. They can also obtain additional information by calling Target at 1-800-440-0680.
