Unhappy How many are from the D.C. area and how are you holding up?

I'm just watching the news on this latest shooting tonight, so awful. I feel so bad for the families of these people. I wondered how many here are from that area and how you are all holding up. I can't imagine living with the fear while doing the normal things we all do. Everyone stay safe.

Yes, I agree with Startn......thanks for posting this Sue.

I am just mortified for the people in the DC area. I can't imagine having to be afraid to just do normal things in your life, ya know? It's sad and scary.

Let's hope and pray they catch this person(s) soon. Also please know our thoughts and prayers are with the folks in that area and especially the families and friends of the victims.

My sister lives in the DC area. She's seems to be holding up well
BUT
My niece is in 1st grade and is not allowed to go out for recess- she knows there is a "bad man" and that is reason she can't go out. She says it is "freaking her out". Ugh. Breaks my heart.

I hope this person pays and pays for this dearly. No one should have to spend any moment of any day living in terror.

Stepping off my soap box...........

Your family will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers Buttercup!

And you're so right...no one should have to live one day of their life in terror or fear. This person(s) will reap what they have sown.

Exactly - see that's what I'm talking about and what breaks my heart and freaks me out. This killer is holding people in that area hostage and it is SO not right!! It makes me sad, mad and outraged!!

Buttercup - your family has my prayers and thoughts as well. I want this fear and madness to end. It's bad enough for adults to have to deal with this craziness - but this lunatic is really messing with kids' minds - no doubt!! Please know that your family is in my heart.

Ooooh, this makes me so angry.

{{{HUGSSSS}}}... because I don't know what else to do but cry!!

thanks-

Let's all say a little prayer for everyone down there- and that it will end soon. And for the families who have already lost someone. I feel horrible for the families that have lost a loved one - at this point they have no closure- they just have to watch it continue.

Hugs to all my deal hunting friends!

I'm in Charles county, just south of Clinton. So far nothing has happened here except increased police and of course the kids can't go out for recess. I definately feel trapped. I put off going places until my husband can go with me, but it seems even that wouldn't make a difference now.

Kids are bouncing off the walls. I volunteer in my daughter's class twice a week and the teachers just look exhausted. The kids can't do anything to burn off that energy.

We just sitting here, avoiding getting out too much, praying it doesn't extend to here and hoping it ends soon.

When will this nightmare end? I hate to even turn the tv on for fear of hearing that this whacko has struck again, which he has as we all know. Now the news that in a note left at the scene he says our children aren't safe. I think that is a parents worst fear. I live far enough way (5 hours or more) that I don't have to fear for anyone I know here, but my thoughts and prayers go out to the families living down there.

I agree Sue, this is just becoming more than most can bear. And now to have this coward 'Threaten' the children of the area is just horrible. Our prayers are also with everyone in that area, and everyone effected by this horrific slaughtering.

I have to weigh in on this one too. I just read that the latest 'message' from this 'person' states that no child is safe anywhere:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._shootings_418

I have a real hard time with God and religion when people are allowed to randomly destroy innocent children and adults like this. For those in the area, please know that America and the world stands by you in your time of worry. This is major news all over the globe.

As if living in fear wasn't enough. With this new threat, now we have to wonder about halloween. I hate to satisfy this wacko by changing my lifestyle, but is it the right thing as a parent to take our kids out for trick-or-treating?! This is one of my favorite holidays and my kids are at an age where they are really getting into it, but now, we may sit home and do nothing.

Ugh, and now there's a lot of air activity overhead which has me even more worried.

This is just an idea, but you might want to consider a Halloween party in your home, with games and treats. Do the communties have anything planned for a safe Halloween?

{{{Hugs to all}}}

This is just horrible...I spoke with a good friend last night to check on how her daughter and family are doing. They live in Ashland, just less then 5 miles from the shooting outside the Ponderosa Restaurant. Her daughter and husband have 3 young children, her husbands office is only 2 miles from the Ponderosa. She said that helicopter's flew overhead all night after the shooting, with spotlights combing their neighborhood, shining in their windows and yards. The kids school was closed until this morning. Her daughter has to walk between two schools to attend her Latin class, so they're being escorted by 'Armed Guards'....She said that they pretty much have stayed inside, with all the blinds drawn, and feel like they're being held Hostage in their own home, but have no alternative. Explaining it to a 12, 9, and 6 year old isn't easy!!

It saddens and angers us to think that this maniac is violating everyone's lives, rights and freedoms. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to All of you anywhere who this is effecting.

Steph, I was thinking about you when I heard about this latest threat. I agree, why not get all of your childrens friends over for a a Halloween party at your house. You would think that the Mall or the school would have a big party for them rather than chance them going out door to door. I know several communities here have stopped having trick-or-treating because of whackos putting stuff in the candy and their firehall sponsors a big Halloween party for all the kids. Of course then you'd have to worry about getting into the firehall or wherever since this nutcase hits people on their way in and out of public buildings. What a nightmare!

This really is all very tragic. I can't imagine being a parent there and having to make decisions that could affect your child's life - school, the store anywhere you go could be dangerous! Very sad!
It also made me think of how grateful we all should be. I'm really not trying to make less of this tragedy in the DC area. But I am so thankful that I live here in the US. Think of all the people who live through this every day, only on a greater scale! There are so many countries/areas of the world where this is everyday life - it isn't one psycho in one city. It is lots of craziness all over! It isn't something being investigated on an all out man hunt. It is everyday life - every day! Just a thought and something to be thankful for in a crazy world.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

There have been two arrests involved in the sniper case. The two guys have been arrested that they've been looking for the last few hours.

WOOHOO! I bet it's the snipers! The police sure were interested in them the last 12-18 hours or so.

I bet everyone in the DC area is breathing a little easier this morning.
