You didn't like Dreamcatcher? I thought it was great. Had a very very different ending, and some twists and turns I never expected. From the way momtolevi is talking, I may have to invest in Rose Red.

The book was actually quite good, I read it in less than a week! It's really interesting learning about things that happened way back when, I'd recommend it!
As for other Stephen King books, I just finished "Gerald's Game", which was rather long and drawn out, I thought, but still pretty good. Some of his books just draw me right in and others tend to be boring and repetitive! My other favorite author is James Patterson, love those books!

I liked Dreamcatcher OK but my favorites are Cujo and Carrie. I also think the first part of The Stand was great, telling how almost everyone died of the flu, but the rest of it just went on and on. I remember the flu hysteria of those days. We were told to go out and get this shot because there was going to be a mass epidemic and millions of people would die, kind of like 1918 only I think this was when Ford was still in office (maybe Carter already?). In any case, the big flu never happened, but I think the Stand really captured the flavor of a very brief moment of fear.
I don't think King was brain-damaged when he wrote Dreamcatcher. He is just a naturally long-winded person. He has the ability to write short, powerful prose (such as Carrie and part one of The Stand) but he is such a money-maker, he doesn't really get encouraged to edit his work down. Look how long It was and he wrote that in the 80s. As long-winded as I am, I should talk, huh! I didn't see Rose Red. I was a little flabbergasted that he's written one called Rose Madder and then one called Rose Red. What's with the Rose/colors already? But I'll probably look at it sooner or later. A friend told me that he was offended by Gerald's Game because he said it was obvious that King didn't know thing one about the S/M lifestyle. Whatever!!! |
